Cat5/Cat6 Network/Ethernet patch cable 200cm

Standard network cable (not a cross-over type). Obviously black is best. No need to get the more expensive shielded or latest cat 6 – there is very little data transfer going on.

This is the longest network cable you are likely to need and is only needed for flight controls which are on the other side of the pilot to the Universal Hub. An example is the landing gear lever on the Spitfire. Most cables are 50cm and 100cm length.

150cm is fairly long by the way and you’ll end up with a tangle of cables if you use these a lot. They are really only needed for the flight stick which is quite far from the Universal Hub.

This is the shortest cable length you will need and is only needed for controls which are right next to the Universal Hub such as the Spitfire throttle quadrant. Avoid using longer leads when shorter ones will do or your cockpit will become a tangled mess!

This is used to make a very short electrical joint between components, such as the two tact switches in the Spitfire MkIX fire button.

Substitutions

You could try stripping the insulation off some solid core insulated wire. It needs to be very small diameter so it fits inside a ferrule along with the leg of a component. Squashing it flatter with pliers helps.

Micro Switch Long Hinge Lever

There are various manufacturers of these micro switches. The important thing is to get the dimensions right as they are very small. They are used in the mClick component for flaps levers, landing gear levers and other up/down type devices.

These are £7 for a pack from Amazon. You only need a couple for a mClick device and so far (Spitfire chassis lever) we only have one AuthentiKit control which uses a mClick, hence £3.50 each effectively. If you make a lot of AuthentiKit controls then the effective price goes down.

31 March 2022 Update: If you also make some Mustang gear you will use more of these, perhaps six, making a unit price of £1.20

Substitutions

If you find an alternative that looks right, check the dimensions on the diagram on the Amazon page to be sure they’re identical. You can get away with the long lever being a little shorter but other dimensions need to be exact.

Dupont connectors female plug 20cm

Dupont connectors are used to connect wires in the universal hub to the BU0836A circuit board. You can buy them individually but they also come in strips of 40. You need at least one end to have a female plug and the cable to be at least 20cm long. The strips of 40 usually have a plug on the other end, either male or female and you just snip that off.

This wire is used throughout AuthentiKit designs, often for making a connection to an axis signal. It is very easy to work with and the insulation can be stripped off with a finger nail.
