ATK209W: White silicone wire

White silicone wrapped AWG26 wire

  • Manufacturer: n/a
  • Product ID: n/a

This wire is used throughout AuthentiKit designs, often for making a connection to an axis signal. It is very easy to work with and the insulation can be stripped off with a finger nail.

Supplier Links

You can buy lengths by the metre from eBay or you can buy a pack of 6 reels which covers all 6 of the ATK209 parts.

Indicative Pricing With Allowance for P&P

The eBay link I found has the advantage that this one supplier has all the colours, but it is £2/metre. Using multiple eBay suppliers you’ll find all the colours and be able to get better prices. You’ll probably by 2-3 metres at a time anyway, so I’ve gone for an indicative price of £0.75/metre

£0.75/metre

I would stick with this as the designs are based around the external diameter of this silicone wrapped wire and the pliability of it.

ATK208: Ferrules

1mm diameter silver plated jewellery crimps

  • Manufacturer: n/a
  • Product ID: n/a

These are 1mm diameter silver plated jewellery crimps. They are just the right size for sliding over a thin wire and an electronic component leg in order to make a reliable electrical connection without soldering. Try to get good quality ones as cheap ones are cut roughly and make it hard to push the wires through. For any controller your only need around a dozen at most but they’re easy to lose, so get plenty of spares!

Supplier Links

eBay or Amazon are good options. There’s no need to get the solid silver type. silver or gold plated will do. You won’t get them individually. Usually they’re in packets of at least 300.

This is for a packet of 300 from the above supplier.

The gold plated ones are fine, but don’t get them any larger and don’t waste money on the pure silver ones.

ATK200: BU0836A Board

Leo Bodnar BU0836A 12-Bit Joystick Controller

  • Manufacturer: Leo Bodnar
  • Product ID: BU0836A

This is the circuit board that takes all the input signals from the AuthentiKit flight controls and sends them to your PC via a single USB connection. It supports 8 axes and 32 inputs however to make use of all 32 inputs you need to wire up a bunch of diodes or add on the Leo Bodnar Break-out Matrix Board (ATK207). At present we are not using that board and are instead using the BU0836A via the Simplified Direct Button Connection Method which limits the inputs to 12.

Supplier Links

Source direct from Leo Bodnar – others have found resellers in the US and these will be added to the list shortly.

Substitutions

There are no substitutions for this board. Other boards and approaches do exist but the AuthentiKit system is built around this board for 3 reasons:

  • It has proven bulletproof over many years – I’ve miswired and short circuited things so many times and I’ve never had one fail
  • It requires no soldering – just plug in dupont connectors
  • It requires no programming. It is natively recognised by Windows as a joystick controller without any coding or configuration.

ATK205: 12×12 Tact switch (flat)

Yellow Plunger Tactile Switch, SPST-NO 50 mA @ 24 V dc 3mm

  • Manufacturer: Omron
  • Product ID: B3F-4005

There are loads of manufacturers of 12mm x 12mm tact switches however AuthentiKit designs are all based around the Omron B3F series, This is the flat type as opposed to ATK204 which is the projected button type. Total height 4.3mm, with lugs at the bottom.

I would stick to Omron. The dimensions and shape need to be exactly the same. Still there are other variants that will work – for example it doesn’t matter what the operating force is or whether you go for fancy gold plated options. Here’s a link to the manufacturer specs.

ATK202: Hall sensor

A1324LUA-T Hall Effect Sensor, Linear, 10 mA, SIP, 3 Pins, 4.5 V, 5.5 V

  • Manufacturer: Allegro Microsystems
  • Product ID: A1324LUA-T

I tested about four hall sensors and this was best for the way we’re using it here. I recall it was the strongest in terms of response to the magnetic field.

NB: These Allegro sensors are in very short supply at the moment. See substitution options below.

Indicative Pricing With Allowance for P&P

Farnell has them at £2.33 if bought individually. With allowance for some P&P I’ve gone for £3

Substitutions

Other options from Allegro may work however they often have a much weaker response than the 5mv/G that the Allegro gives. This means that your axis movements will be less precise especially at the ends of travel. I have researched an alternative from Honeywell and found it to be an acceptable alternative. The Honeywell SS494B has an equally good response curve through the range of movement and is an exact match physically. If you can get the Allegro version I still recommend it though as the Honeywell proved to be more jittery. The allegro had jitter of around 0.1% and the Honeywell around 0.2%.

ATK201 – RJ45 Keystone Jack

RJ45 CAT6/CAT5e Tool-Less No Punch Down Tool Required Gold Plated 10 GB Ethernet Cable Patch Panel Wall Plate

  • Manufacturer: iGreely (other brands offer the same e.g. Antrader, Setko)
  • Product ID: The iGreely version shows T568A/B

After testing many different types of keystone jack this one proved the best and easiest for to reliably connect with tools and all AuthentiKit designs are built around it’s specific dimensions. It’s a tool-less keystone jack and this particular one is recommended.

They are hard to buy individually. Amazon.Com has them at $11 for 10, so I’ve suggested £2.50 each as a compromise.

Other options to iGreely will work, but you need to ensure that the wiring order is the same 12548736 and the same profile/dimensions.
